Mundane is
the branch of astrology that studies
the correlation of celestial phenomenon
to large scale events that impact
many people. Traditionally, astrologers
have used the moment of the Solstices
and Equinoxes (the changing of the
seasons), Solar
Ingresses (Sun changing
signs) and the New and Full Moons,
as moments that can lend insight
into larger events that affect us
all.

On
January 1, 1981, I
was interviewed by Channel 7 TV
news, San Francisco for the usual
astrological predictions for the
next year...
Realizing that I'd be asked to
forecast the end of the Iranian
hostage crisis, I prepared
for the interview by perusing the
next several lunations in The
Source Book of Mundane Maps. I
noticed that the map for the Full
Moon Eclipse of January 20th had
several planetary lines activating
Algeria which, at the time, was
acting as a go-between in negotiations
to free the hostages.
Here's
an excerpt of the interview:
Channel
7: "What
about Iran? Do you see anything having
to do with the hostages?"
Nicki: "There's
a Full Moon on January 20th. There's
also an eclipse. At that time (according
to the Astro*Carto*Graphy map),
Algeria seems to be focalized, and
that says to me that potentially
something may develop with Iran since
Algeria and Iran are so tied together
at this point."
The
hostages were released...
That Full Moon that I referred
to occurred at at 11:39 PM PST on January
19, 1981. After spending more than
a year in custody, the hostages were
released at 9:30 AM PST on January
21, 1981, less than a day and a half
later. They were first flown to Algeria,
and then on to Germany for their debriefing.
